In her own words, "I was an avid non-cycling, smoking,
couch potato until May of 1999. When I agreed to help Mom
and started creating the magazine (ERRC) with the information
she provided me, I caught the bug."
Laurie got her Tour Easy in May of 1999. In September of
1999, she set a new Vancouver Bike Club Women's Recumbent
10-Mile Time Trial at 28:06, average 21.35 mph. She smashed
her own record with an average 23.42 mph with her TiRush on
July 5, 2001.
On June 30, 2001, Laurie rode in the first Phil Hohstein
Classic Criterium that included recumbent racers. Men and
women recumbent racers competed together. Laurie was the only
woman who raced and captured third place overall.
Laurie was also nominated for a 2000 Alice B. Toeclips award
for outstanding effort in cycling advocacy.
She is the Editor of ERRC (Easy Riders Recumbent Club), a
magazine for Easy Racer owners and recumbent enthusiasts.
Laurie freely gives hundreds of hours to producing this tri-annual
magazine. The operative word is "gives". Laurie
receives no money for her effort. All funds from subscriptions
go into the publishing of this magazine. She does it out of
a love for cycling.
From couch potato to award winning, race winning, cycling
goddess, Laurie inspires and encourages us with her achievements.
Easy Racers applauds the effort and the outlook. Way to go,
Wo!

Connie,McAyeal of North Plains, OR., has let her passion for
recumbents lead her into becoming one of the foremost spokeswomen
for the recumbent community. She was the first editor of the
ERRC, which was originally planned as a "small flyer."
Under Connie's guidance, it immediately became a magazine, and
a "must have" for Easy Racers owners.

When Tri-Met and MAX, the mass transit allowed bicycles and
all other manner of wheeled vehicles on board, but excluded
recumbents; Connie went to work. She organized friends and
family, set up photo shoots, made this poster, which she posted
everywhere, and sent to local newspapers and government officials.
As a result, she got the ban lifted and recumbents are now
allowed on Tri-Met and MAX.In 2002, Connie received an Alice
B. Toeclips award for outstanding effort in bicycle advocacy.

Easy Racers salutes Connie McAyeal for all she's done to
make it a little better for all of us. She shows us that one
person can make a difference.

| World's Fastest Kids |

Despite a near miss with an airplane, thirteen
year olds, Tanya Markham and Macky Martin became the fastest
kids in the world. On may 31, 200, Tanya and Macky, pedaled
a tandem streamlined bicycle to 43.56 mph, capturing the junior
record.
The kids made their record attempt at
the 36th Annual Watsonville, CA, Fly-In and Airshow. Their
first attempt ended in a crash when an airplane pulled out
in front of them. Pilot Tanya had to dump the bike. The bike
is completely enclosed so the teenagers can't get their feet
on the ground. To stop without a catcher is to crash. The
out of place airplane had no radio and the pilot had not heard
the calls to clear the runway.
Tanya and Macky were not hurt. They were
picked up, started again, and made a successful second run;
shattering the previous record, 33.47 mph, by more than 10
mph.
