First post - Tour Easy owner in NYC!

A little over 2 months ago, I bought a yr 2000 Tour Easy. It is my first recumbent bicycle (I'd had trikes). Wow, I love it!

Now I'm thinking of a lighter, faster Easy Racers model - maybe a Ti-Rush. Is there anyone within a few hundred miles of NYC who has an Easy Racers bike I could take a look at? I'm interested in the GRR, Ti-Rush, the Cobra seat, the Javelin, and the Javelin's single-riser T-bar.

Thanks to all!

--Greg

P.S. Here's me on my Tour Easy...

You might try contacting Peter Stull at www.Bicycleman.com

His shop, The Bicycleman, is located in Alfred Station approx. 300 miles from NYC., but it is well worth the drive.

He's a great person to deal with as are his staff.

Since you purchased a 2000 vintage T.E. perhaps you can assist me in my quest to date my own used T.E. I think it's a 1999 or a 2000 but I'm not sure. I called EasyRacers but their records don't go that far back and my request for help on this forum has narrowed the build date to either '99 or '00.

If I remember correctly, my serial # is 3431.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Greg,

Congratulations on your acquisition of a Tour Easy! From your photo, it does not look like you have sufficient leg extension. Assuming you are in good health you would benefit by moving your seat back. I am sure there are people in your area that can help you, but if you ever come to West Palm Beach you are more than welcome to try my GRR (med) or my wife's Javelin (small).

Regards,

Bill

Wow! 46 units apart! That's the closest hit I've gotten yet. I'm almost ready to call mine a model year 2000, not that it really matters a lot I guess.

Thank you very much for your response.

Hey Greg, how's that T.E. working out for you. Three years into the relationship and my T.E. and I are still on our Honeymoon!! :-)

I'm with Bill - what size is your TE and what is your xseam, the pic makes the bike look too small for you

Size of Greg's TE

Hard to tell if his TE is too small or not. His leg is not fully extended on the pedal in the photo and it looks like he has some space remaining to adjust the seat back. May be the right size bike just not "dialed in".

Another Greg

I've been there several times. I bought a P-38 there, and will be returning it (lower back pain) towards a Ti-Rush! They are great folks!

Sorry, I don't know too much about how to date them. I'm not even positive about the date of mine. I am the third owner....

Bill, I actually have chronic tendonitis on the medial side of the right knee, which requires a little less extension than normal for a 40.5" x-seam. That picture has 170mm cranks - I am used to 165s on my DF track bike. Since that photo I put 150mm cranks on the bike, put the seat farther back, and it made a world of difference. I can ride pain free all day. I am very sensitive to crank length and leg extension. I have found a sweet spot that doesn't hurt the hamstring or leg adductor tendons, and also doesn't hurt the top of the knee the way it does when we are too close to the pedals.

Glad to hear that you've got your T.E. dialed in.

I believe you can find the serial # embossed on the bottom of the bike on one of the tabs welded accross the two bottom tubes.

I try to keep a record of the serial #'s of all my bikes for identification purposes in case of theft or other catastophic loss. Some websites even have tables matching serial #'s to manufacture dates though I don't believe any exist for Easy Racers.

I'm farther than 200 miles, but if you ever find yourself in Burlington VT you can try my GRR. I bought it new in 2009, and I love it. S/M frame size, 165mm cranks, Sprinter seat, polished. Its revitalized my riding.

Lenny - I have been busy, but I just looked up my TE serial number: 3627 . Any idea what era that would be?

Clicksys - Your GRR sounds like it would be perfect to ride! I think I'll have my Ti-Rush by the time I'm anywhere near Burlington!

Greg,

I see you're buying a new Ti-Rush from Peter, you certainly have been busy!!

I would guess you have a late 2000 or early 2001 vintage based on the response I got a couple of years ago to my post...

http://209.133.21.26/vbb/showthread...t=serial+number

and the following. I've researched serial numbers in this forum and found the following results.
#2981.....built on 07/27/1999
#3477.....reported as a 2000 earlier in this thread
#3481.....Built on 07/19/2000
#3778.....Built on 04/25/2001
#3779.....built on 04/25/2001
#4243.....built on 03/26/2002
#4291.....built on 04/25/2002
#4673.....built on 02/28/2003
#6031....purchased 08/04/2007

(linhar's) response is the closest serial # I' ve heard from yet and it's 46 units later than mine. I have no clue as to how many units Easy Racers produced in any given year (though it appears that it could have been 500 or more T'E's annually in the early 2000's), and so my quest continues.

I'm guessing my #3431 is a late 1999 to early 2000.

Many bikes have a "Built on" stamp similar to the serial # stamp someplace under the seat. I can't find a "built on" date on my bike though.

Congrats. on your new ride. Can't wait to read your "New Bike" report and drool over the pictures.

For what it is worth, I bought a Tour Easy #3481 this spring and found out it was sold on July 19, 2000 to Hostel Shoppe.
This is my first TE and love it!! I started with an EZ-1 (sold), moved up to a Sun Sport AX (up for sale now) and am currently riding the black Tour Easy!!!
