I bought a Swagman XC tray rack; had a friend replace the lateral extentions with 1" square pipe and an extra 7" per side. This rack has been driven thousands of miles. Yep the TE's stick out some but I've never had a problem. I think it cost me $20 and a can of spray paint for the extentions. As for driving with the fairing on; If its under 15 miles, I leave it on. I did get a couple of larger plastic washers for the attachments. Been doing this for 2- three years now.

Our two Gold Rushes fit in our Dodge Caravan nicely. They're held upright on fork mounts, but that involves removing the front wheels and fairings. (Mine is XL, and the fairing squishes against the headliner if I don't take it off.) Still, it's kept them clean and secure over thousands of miles.

Jeff,

I have a Town & Country Limited. I have a board specially made to go across the rear, using fork mounts, just as you describe, if I need to haul two. And yes, you must remove the front wheel and faring.

However, when I'm just out for the day, I only take one bike with me. Using the method that I described nothing needs to be removed from the bike. It is much more convenient.

If I'm also taking the trike, Bacchetta, or a friends bike, along then I used the method you described.

Joe

Ah... I get the difference. I rarely go for a ride without my better (smarter, prettier) half:

I have the fork mounts on chunks of Trex decking material. I can pull these out, attach the fork, and slide the bike in easily. These chunks then get pinned to a cross-beam of the same material (to keep the bikes from rocking) and then the bikes are tied with nylon ratcheting ties. Probably overkill, but I bet I could roll the van over without damaging the bikes. Gotta save the bikes.

I have used one of Saris racks for years similar to this one. T-Rax Pro 4-Bike except mine is for three bikes. The url http://www.saris.com/bike-racks/veh...itch-racks.html
As others have said, remove your fairing if you are going to be at freeway speeds.

Racks

I purchased an ATOC Draftmaster and set it up to handle a LWB recumbent in the center, or 3 SWB recumbents or DF's as well it can handle a trike. Easy to load. Holds bikes securely. Always use the stabilizer straps especially when using the two outboard mounts.
