Pantour Hub

Easyadmin;

That's the diagram that explains the problem. Their new hub lines up on my fork as shown on the 2001-2003 hub. This puts the trajectory a little less than 90 degrees off. The pinch screw aims forward when it should be rotated towards the back of the bike until vertical. In any event, thanks for the information. bk

Brian,

Something doesn't make sense here. I looked at those two drawing too. And I agree that they aren't the most clear, BUT I don't see why it won't work, and can't see how it could possibly be 90 degrees off.

Yes I agree that the angle of the dropouts is slightly different on the two forks pictured.

It looks to me like they have changed the orientation of that little pinch screw, but all that does is hold the end cap on, and keep the hub from slipping apart when it is out of the dropouts. It doesn't do anything else.

If you look at that raised oval shape on the end cap, it is oriented the same on both the older and the newer hub.

Just for reference, the side of the hub with the pinch screw should face the right, or chain side, of the bike, and the cams that adjust the trajectory should be positioned down and below the quick release skewer.

Do both of your end caps have the pinch screw? Seems to me like some of the later hubs may be built this way.

You don't by chance have wheel reversed in the fork, or mounted with the trajectory cams above the skewer do you????? Both are easy to do.

In any case, while I like my wheel, and would buy it again, it has NOT been trouble free. I have to service it regularly, which I've learned to do.

I wasn't sure that Pantour was even still around. You never hear anything about them any more, and their website is many years out of date.

Depending on how you use your bike, you may very well be better off without this wheel.

Just my opinion of course, but also based on some experience.

Good luck,

Joe

Hub

I've used the Pantour on the front of my GRR for 4 years. Orig. it came w/the spacer washers all screwed up so that the hub scraped the black side plates when I turned. The girl @ Pantour sent me some additional washers & I rebuilt it. It has been working fine ever since. Each spring I go in & either replace and/or rotate the elastomer block in it. 2 years ago I lost a lot of weight so I had to go from 2 blocks down to 1. Other than that it has been pretty much trouble free.

Pantour Hub

According to their manual, the pinch screw should be on the rear side of the fork, and it is an indicator of trajectory. So, it is supposed to be vertical. The cam screw is supposed to ride against the front side of the dropout slot. Yes, I had the axle in the top of the dropout, and the cam screw below it.

The only way both the axle tube and the cam screw will fit in the dropout slot leaves the pinch screw angled forward slightly off horizontal. This means the trajectory is way off and the brake pads are about 3/4" above the brake surface on the rim. Not enough adjustment there for the brakes to work. Rotating the whole works about 70 degrees (making the pinch screw vertical) would solve all of this. But, the cam screw prevents it. bk

The fact that it won't work, and Pantour's mechanic agreed, is beyond me.

Ok well, in that case, I've got nothing else.

Certainly doesn't make any sense to me though. When I've talked to them over the years, they said that recumbents are / were a significant part of their market. So now they have designed something that specifically takes bents out of their potential market. Hummmm.

Sorry it didn't work out.

Joe

Pantour Hub

Well, the hub/wheel sent by Pantour wouldn't work, so I returned it for a refund May 19, 2010. Here it is july 27, and still no refund. Can't seem to get one from them. bk
