Easy Racers Racing Updates

Yes, the rumors are true. Easy Racers has purchased Matt Weavers "Virtual Edge", now known as the Easy Racers "Virtual Rush". We have done a bit of retro-fitting and fine tuning in preperation for an attempt on the Dempsey - MacCready Prize. This is quite possibly the fastest bike on the planet, with a predicted top speed of over 80 mph!

VIRTUAL RUSH RECORD ATTEMPT

On May 4, 2002, the Easy Racer Team made an attempt on the One Hour Record for Human Powered Vehicles at the California Speedway near Los Angeles. The track is a 2-mile oval, not steeply banked, and seemed perfect for this sort of attempt.

Fast Freddy pedaled off at about 6:30 A.M. and exactly one hour later had covered about 45.7 miles. This is a personal best for Fred, but did not break the record of 50 mph set by Sam Whittingham of British Columbia, Canada in 1998 on a Varna.
Fred certainly covered the most miles ever ridden on a video system bicycle. He had no windows--- only a TV screen to guide by. It took a lot of practice and quite a few high-speed crashes before Fast Freddy mastered this state-of-the-art machine. Let's give a BIG HAND for Fast Freddy, who at 45-year-old STILL has the right stuff. Although he did not get a record, his accomplishment is still awesome!

Easy Racers is at it again! Introducing the Virtual Rush!

Sunday, February 10th Fast Freddy managed to get a few laps in at the Las Vegas Speedway. Due to high winds he crashed in turn three after only two laps. We picked him up, dusted him off, and he was raring to go for another try. Unfortunately the winds proved insurmountable and he again crashed in turn three. Overall we were encouraged, as Fast Freddy was above the pace needed to beat the standing record of 50 mph. We are continuing our pursuit of the Dempsey - MacCready Prize and will keep you posted.

Yes, it's Freddy on the half-shell.

Fast Freddy getting in some practice at the local strip.

We have a small video of Fast Freddy using the TV system for navigation.

The Virtual Rush sporting a new paint job.

March 21st - March 24th Easy Racers Inc. was lucky enough to obtain the use of the Ford Proving Grounds in Yucca, AZ. to try for the Dempsey - MacCready Prize as well as a new world record! It proved to be a very educational experience proving the workability of the "landing gear" as well as some refinements in the Virtual Reality system and an impromptu vertical stabilizer to improve handling in the wind. Fast Freddy was able to put in many laps and hit speeds of 65mph. Unfortunately he was hit by a gust of wind during a high speed run down the straight-away and laid the bike over at about 63 mph. ripping off the fin and leaving a 350 foot white skidmark (new world record?) down the track. We have a video summary here.

Another nice shot.

Sealing Fast Freddy up tight.

Cruising at about 60 mph.
